Young Hoosier Reader
Ahoy, Matey! Read a Young Hoosier Book
The Laurel School Library is participating in the Young Hoosier Book Award this school year. Students wanting to participate need to read at least five Young Hoosier Book Nominees, take the Accelerated Reader Test and score at least 70%.
***Students will need to read at least 5 from one list (Intermediate grades 4 - 6 or Middle Grades grades 6 - 8). Students can participate in one or both lists. To vote at least 5 books need to be read and an AR test taken with at least 70% accuracy on each list.
Students will be given a treasure chest after taking a Young Hoosier Accelerated Reader test. For each test with a 70% or higher for a Young Hoosier AR test students will receive a stamp on their treasure chest. The treasure chests will be on display in the library throughout the school year.
Each time a student reads a Young Hoosier Nominee, , takes an AR test and passes with 70% or higher he or she may enter a monthly drawing for a prize. At the end of first semester the student with the highest AR percentage correct will receive a gift certificate to use at the Spring Book Fair. The student reading the most Young Hoosier Books this school year will receive a gift certificate to use for Scholastic books in April 2017.
In April the library will host a Young Hoosier Book Award Voting Party. Information regarding the party date and details will be announced in March 2017.
